A committee with District-wide representation continues to meet annually to prioritize requests from individual schools and central administration for implementing technology focused projects for the next school year. Once approved by the Executive Council, Information Management Services (IMS) coordinates the work that is done to complete the approved projects. The list of projects for the 2009-10 year includes implementing new applications, upgrading the technology infrastructure, enhancing management of the network, and participating in state mandated reporting systems.
Clarification of Project Management
During the last year efforts were made to better define how project management will work within IMS. The concept of good project management continues to be supported as it is vital to the successful completion of the District’s numerous technology projects. Project management’s purpose is: 1) to deliver project support to the Omaha Public Schools, its students, management, support staff, and faculty; 2) to provide guidance in project management processes and methodologies in a manner that is efficient, effective, consistent, and standardized within the Districts goals and objectives; and 3) to provide mentoring and coaching in an effort to raise the project management maturity level of the organization.
Primary goals and objectives include:
- Deliver successful IT projects
- Build Project Management maturity at the organizational level
- Keep Management and Project Community informed
- Serve as the organization’s authority on IT Project Management practices
